Hello Students and Parents,

Happy Halloween and happy first snow. I hope you are all well. I am just checking in again with a short update.

Module 2 Classes
Module 2 classes are off to a great start. Today marked the 6th day of instruction. Parents, now is a good time to check in with your child and ask about how classes are going. If you are curious about your child’s attendance, reach out to their advisor – we keep a good record of student attendance.

Election Day – Tuesday, 11.3.2020
There is no school for students on Tuesday, 11.3.2020 due to the presidential election. In Derry, voting takes place at Pinkerton Academy. I hope our eligible students exercise their right to vote on Tuesday. Parents, if you are voting in person, please consider bringing your child with you so they can begin to understand the process.

Speaking of the Election…
Last week I invited all of you to submit an entry into our electoral college prediction contest. As a reminder, it’s not too late to submit an entry. As I shared today at school, there will be a big, big prize for the student and staff winners. Below are the instructions:

Students and staff only (sorry parents)

  1. Go to this website and fill out an electoral college map. Your job is to predict which presidential candidate will will each state. To do this, click on one of the two political parties at the top (Republican or Democrat). Then click the states (keep an eye on Maine and Nebraska) that you think will be won by that political party. Do the same for the other political party until you have assigned all 538 electoral votes to one of the two parties. Check your progress at the bottom. The bar should be filled with some combination of Red and Blue.
  2. Once you are satisfied with your prediction, click Share Map. This will generate a link. Copy the link into an email and send it to me BEFORE 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, 11/3.
  3. When we have the results (who knows when that will be), I will announce the student and staff member who got the most states right. Each will win a GREAT prize and will earn bragging rights as a super cool political nerd. Good luck.

New Website
Next has a new website that went live TODAY. To check it out, click here or go to www.nextcharterschool.org. We hope you enjoy (lot’s of pictures of students). Check out the staff pictures and let us know who has the best one… my vote is for Ms. Gleckman.
